Additional information can be found in the BCBA/BCaBA Experience Standards.

Given the timing, programs with graduates that will not be able to meet this deadline under the current experience standards will shift to the hours and requirements married to each option above.

The University of Dayton has designed the program to allow students to achieve the 1500 hours required as part of the ‘Concentrated Supervised Fieldwork’. At current, the 1500 hours are expected to be completed over a length of 6 terms at 14 weeks each (total of 84 weeks).

A calendar month is 4 weeks. The BACB requires a minimum of 15 hours and a maximum of 30 hours per week. At a minimum, students are required to complete 60 hours per calendar month and at a maximum, 120 hours per calendar month. Over the course of 84 weeks, at a minimum, the student would achieve 1260 hours (240 hours less than required), and at a maximum, 2520 (520 hours more than required).

While the hours earned is important, it is not the only factor used to determine if the hours completed can officially count toward the requirement. Percentage of fieldwork hours spent in supervision (monthly basis), number of supervisor contacts of at least 15 minutes (monthly basis), and percentage of time spent in each type of activity.

Example Fieldwork Hour Break Down:

Student A - Minimum (15 hours a week)

6 terms X 14 weeks = 84 weeks

15 hours X 4 weeks/1 month = 60 hours/month

Time spent in supervision = 10% of 60 hrs/month = 6 hrs/month

90 minutes or 1 hr and 30 min of supervisory contact total

Unrestricted Activities = 60% of 60 hrs/month = 36 hours/month

Can’t participate in individual/small-group supervision for no more than 30 hrs/month

Student B - Maximum (30 hours a week)

6 terms X 14 weeks = 84 weeks

30 hours X 4 weeks/1 month = 120 hours/month

Time spent in supervision = 10% of 120 hrs/month = 12 hrs/month

90 minutes or 1 hr and 30 min of supervisory contact total

Unrestricted Activities = 60% of 120 hrs/month = 72 hours/month

Can’t participate in individual/small-group supervision for no more than 60 hrs/month
